You took my breath away

I wanted to stay home today
But mama said I must go to school
I tried to beg her in every way
She said 'don't you be a fool'

The school bus is at the gate
And the driver begins to horn
They'll not wait if I'm late
Sonner than later I must hop on

It was like any normal day
This cold wintry December
Nothing unusual along the way
This was all I could remember

Gun shots rang out in the air
Shattering the peace around
Bloodstained children everywhere
Trying to hide without a sound

I hold my breath and try to run
What's happening, no one could say
I see him, in his hand a big gun
I froze as he took my breath away
